FCO Services’ Apprentices are Regional Awards Winners

Congratulations to our award winning apprentices Edward Bleech and Daniel Grice for their outstanding achievement at the East Midlands Regional finals of the National Apprenticeship Award 2016 held on 5 October in Hinckley.

Edward was awarded winner of the EAL Award for Advanced Apprentice of the Year, and his fellow apprentice Daniel received Highly Commended in the same category; a fantastic achievement for them both, gaining selection from within a strong category of 81 individuals out of almost 1,000 entries.

On his success Edward said:

“I’m absolutely thrilled, this is such an accolade and I’d like to thank FCO Services for providing me with this opportunity.

“My apprenticeship at FCO Services gave me the opportunity to travel around the world working to safeguard the UK’s diplomatic missions, whilst gaining valuable practical experience and earning a salary. It was an exciting way to change my career and skills which I couldn’t pass up.

“The advanced apprenticeship has given me the foundation to start a successful career as a Technical Engineer, building on the passion I had for design and innovation during my apprenticeship.

“I’m driven to share my experience, as an Apprentice Ambassador to encourage more people to take up an apprenticeship.”

Daniel also praised FCO Services’ apprenticeship scheme:

“After completing my GCSEs I wanted a practical hands-on job, rather than spending three years racking up debt at university and then having to find a job. Realising an apprenticeship would allow me to earn and learn I applied to a number of companies. I received several offers but accepted FCO Services’ offer based on the opportunities for travel, diversity of work and organisational reputation.

“I am proud to be highly commended at the regional finals of the national apprenticeship awards.”

Danny Payne, CEO, FCO Services said:

“This is a fantastic achievement for Edward and Daniel gaining selection and winning within a strong category of nominees.

“To have not one but two FCO Services apprentices recognised at the regional finals rightly recognises the hard work and dedication shown by them both. They have set the bar for other aspiring apprentices.”

“Our award winning apprenticeship programme provides hands-on opportunities for those starting out in their careers. Apprentices play a vital role in the development of challenging projects that FCO Services delivers around the world.”

In 2015 FCO Services were recognised as a top apprenticeship public sector employer and have been running their apprenticeship scheme for over 50 years.

Edward will now go forward to be entered into the selection for the national finals for the coveted National Apprentice of the Year Award. We wish Edward the very best of luck.
