We are proud to announce that the #BeyondPlastic campaign has won the BusinessGreen Leaders Awards Employee Engagement Campaign of the Year 2019. This award honours the efforts of staff which have reduced single-use plastics in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s (FCO) UK operations by 97%. Our Sustainability team and our FCO partners jointly delivered the campaign.
We work closely with the FCO to ensure they meet their environmental targets and ambitions. Together, we have been able to significantly reduce single-use plastics, and overseas we are working hard to achieve 100% removal of avoidable single-use plastics globally by 2020.
The BusinessGreen Leaders Awards said:
In another competitive category the FCO won over the judges with the breadth and ambition of its #BeyondPlastic campaign, which has already secured impressive results cutting single-use plastic by 97 per cent as the department moves to halt the use of single use plastics altogether across its global operations by 2020.
The Head of Sustainability for the FCO Services team was highly commended in the Sustainability Executive of the Year category. A Chartered Environmentalist, he and his team are progressing an ambitious ‘Future Perfect’ programme to drive reductions in emissions across posts in over 165 countries. He focusses on innovations in estates, low carbon technologies, and sustainable supply chains. Additionally, he supports the FCO’s network of ambassadors and diplomats to deliver a leading sustainable Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
