The 1940s British Ambassador’s Residence and other buildings in the Sofiyskaya compound were long overdue a comprehensive refurbishment. FCO Services were retained to project manage the restoration of the site.
The principal aspect of this project was the refurbishment of the Ambassador’s Residence. This involved removing the roof and rendering, and stripping out the old mechanical and electrical services.
We project managed and supervised all the works and carried out all interior design work. We were presented with obstacles to overcome including complex local planning rules. Our team ensured that the planning rules were observed, and managed contractors with a successful result.
The Ambassador’s Residence is one of the jewels in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s overseas estate. It is now restored to its full glory, respecting its original design and use. Our refurbishment means it is fit for operation for at least the next 25 years and it will continue to act as a base for future ambassadors working in Moscow.
