Modern working at the British Embassy Washington

The look and feel of the office environment in Washington, which dates back from the 1960s, needed an update to create a modern workspace. In particular, the post needed to create more office space in the Chancery and we were asked to provide a modern solution.

We understood the importance of balancing the openness of the offices and the need to maintain the security of the chancery suite as a whole. We designed and built a bright, modern, open plan space in the embassy, opening up many of the old-fashioned individual offices. Our team project managed the works, carried out the design and engineering, and supervised all activities on site.

By using modern materials and colour schemes, the new environment has improved working conditions overall for staff. It has set the standard for open plan workspaces generally, and demonstrates what can be done to update old office environments to provide a modern workspace at an economic and affordable cost.
